Dear all,

let me invite you to the irregular seminar of the COBRA group, taking 
place on Tuesday 28.6.2022.

The speaker will be *prof. Ehud Kaplan* (Charles University and National 
Institute of Mental Health, Prague, Czech Republic) with the topic

*"Do we really see with three parallel streams?"*

Abstract:
     A central question in neuroscience is how the brain represents, 
encodes and analyzes the outside world. In the past quarter century the 
vision science community has been drawn to the notion that the visual 
system analyzes the visual world by employing several independent neural 
streams, each served by a separate neuronal population with its own 
specialized cell type, connectivity pattern and perceptual function. 
Examples include the X/Y/W streams in cats and the P/M/K streams of 
primates.
     Focusing on the primate visual system, I shall:
     - Introduce briefly the visual system
     - Describe the Two/Three stream dogma
     - Review the data on which this dogma is based
     - Discuss the criteria that such a theory must meet
     - Explore the difficulties that the parallel streams hypothesis 
encounters in its collision with current anatomical, physiological and 
psychophysical data.

Computer Science, the Czech Academy of Sciences (Pod Vodarenskou Vezi
