let me invite you to the irregular seminar of the COBRA group, taking place on Tuesday 01.11.2022, 4pm.

The speaker will be*Hananel Hazan, Ph.D. (Tufts University)*

Title:Strategies to train spiking neuronal network models to play games

Abstract: Spiking neurons are attractive computational units crucial to our understanding of how biological networks store and retrieve information. But the spiking neurons are also notorious to tame. In this lecture, I will show several techniques we use to train spiking neural networks to perform simple navigation games in an already standard machine-learning task. We also suggest a possible approach that synapse delays alone can be used for computation on those standard tasks. Our work was done using two simulators, NEURON for the biological details model and BindsNET for the machine learning community that prefers functionality over biological accuracy. Both
simulators complement one another in their approach to exploring the computational aspects of the biological nervous systems.


Dr. Hananel Hazan received Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Haifa, then he was postdoctoral researcher at Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Currently, he is a research scientist at the Levin Lab at the Allen Discovery Center at Tufts University. For details you can visithttps://hananel.hazan.org.il/.
